Chloe Flavor by Chloe Coscarelli

I am a huge Chloe Coscarelli fan. I was so excited to get this cookbook. It is full of flavor, spice, and everything I love about food. I particularly always enjoy Chloe's wonderful photographs of her food. I also really like that these are ingredients that are easy to find, cheap and they are easy to make meals. When I get home from work, the last thing I want to do is make quick meal. This book is perfect for that.

I give this book 5 stars.

Power Plates

I really enjoyed this cookbook. I like that the focus is only on one plate. As a single person, I love not having to drag out tons of pots and pans and dishes, just for one meal. Also, as a bit of junk/comfort food vegan, I really appreciated that the book focused on nutritious, healthy meals. I could definitely stand to add a few more to my weekly meal plan. I also really appreciate cookbooks that bright pictures that make the food look enticing. I love knowing what the end product will look like.  Overall, I thought this was a great cookbook.

I would give this cookbook 4.5 stars.

Street Vegan by Adam Sobel

I absolutely LOVED this cookbook. As a vegan, I am always looking for cookbooks that appeal both to other vegans and non-vegans alike. This is a beautiful cookbook with lots of great recipes. I love that all the recipes are fairly easy, despite the long list of ingredients.
The first recipe I made was "Mint Matlock Takes All His Clothes Off." I did have to substitute pecans for the caocoa nibs, since those could not be found at any of my local grocery stores. They were delicious cookies. They were like a mix between a Thin Mint and a brownie. They were a little rich for my taste, but I enjoyed them with a glass of almond milk.
The next recipe I plan on trying is the Spinach Pie. I am really looking forward to trying this for breakfast. Sobel suggests it as an appetizer, but I love having vegetables for breakfast. The recipe seems straightforward, with suggestions for advance preparation, alternative seasonings, and suggestions for reheating.
Overall, this cookbook is great. The one downside is that there is not a picture for every recipe, but it does not in any way harm this book. I look forward to spending a lot of time in the kitchen with family and friends making delicious food from Street Vegan.  I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Blogging for Books Review: Brassicas by Laura B. Russell.

I first heard about this cookbook on an NPR article (http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014/06/23/324895793/simple-tricks-can-tame-the-taste-of-broccoli-and-its-cousins.) I absolutely love broccoli and all its cousins, so I was super excited to receive this cookbook. It is a very beautiful book with richly colored photos. I was, though, surprised by how thin this book is.

I tried two recipes. I first tried the Citrusy Green Smoothie (pg 28). I loved it. It was a really simple recipe with ingredients that I stock in my kitchen on a weekly basis. I did not include the coconut oil though because I did not have any on hand. It had a good flavor and is something I will try again and maybe add different fruits to as well.

I also tried the Spicy Kale Fried Rice (pg.28). I really liked this, but I had to make few modifications. I had to use shredded tofu instead of eggs (which they state are optional anyway) that I had seasoned myself. It had a really nice taste to it and it twas fairly easy to make. You could make it a side or your whole meal.

All in all, I thought it was a great book. Although I understand why it isn't, I was disappointed it wasn't a totally vegan cookbook. The author did provide a table in the back though to help the reader decide if it fits their diet. It is definitely a book I will keep and reference in the future.
